  What Types of File Does Gmail Block?

  For your “safety” Google / Gmail blocks you from sending & receiving certain types of executable files via email.

  “ade”, “adp”, “bat”, “chm”, “cmd”, “com”, “cpl”, “exe”,”hta”, “ins”, “isp”, “jse”, “lib”, “mde”, “msc”, “msp”,”mst”, “pif”, “scr”, “sct”, “shb”, “sys”, “vb”, “vbe”,”vbs”, “vxd”, “wsc”, “wsf”, “wsh”

  Even if you place these files within a Zip file (.zip, .tar, .tgz, .taz, .z, .gz, .rar) standard or encrypted – Gmail /Google will still block them.

  If you are sending these types of file via Gmail Google will normally give you a message telling you it is not allowed. But if you are sent an email with a exe attachment from outside Google very annoyingly you will not get a message nor will the message be put into spam or your trash bin, it will just not arrive and even more annoyingly it is not bounced back either.

  They do this to try and stop the spread of Viruses, Malware and other types of nasty programs.

  This can be very inconvenient though if you do need to send one of these types of file for some reason, but luckily you can get round it in fairly simple way – check out our next post to find out more.

  Micosofts New Surface Tablets Prices Leaked Early! 

  A Swedish electronics website has started advertising the forthcoming Surface tablet, and it looks like Microsoft are going to make  massive gamble by pricing their new tablet higher than the Androids tablets and even the Ipad.

  Webhallen.com has listed the Surface tablet as follow;

  The 32GB Windows RT model is listed at £650

  The 128GB Windows pro editions is listed at £1,389.

  It also looks like these prices do not include the the surface tablets special keyboard.

  So far Microsoft have neither confirmed nor denied these leaked prices.

  Computer Room and Data Centre Alarm System 

  How are you currently protecting your Data Centre / Computer Room / Server Room from Power Failures, High Temperatures or even Intruders?

  We would recommend the M30 Alarm Autodialler as a totally independent and failsafe method of monitoring your data centre / computer room or server room. The M30 will continue to function even if you have a total Power Failure, Network Failure & your Phone Lines are down. The M30 is designed so even during a total disaster it will still be able to communicate the problems instantly to the correct on call staff.

  We now have them installed in 3 of our data centres, monitoring the incoming mains both single & three phases, and even more critically the output of our UPS’s. We monitor the power output and also have a interface link into the alarm outputs of the UPS, so we know the condition of the batteries. We also have Alarm Thermostats wired directly into the M30 to monitor the room’s temperature allowing us to check whether the air conditioning has failed.

  The M30 connects to both our Land Phone network and also the GSM network, so if the Land Line fails or is cut the M30 will switch to its backup GSM Dialler option and crucially continue to monitor our equipment.

  We have recently just interfaced the M30 into our intruder & access control system as well allowing us to instantly alert security when there has been a breech.
