    Microsoft has very kindly has provided a free open source method for setting up a wifi hotspot in your computer or laptop. This will allow you to share any internet connection with any wifi device (Laptop, phone,netbook,printer etc).

    Well there is no need to panic Microsoft very kindly provide a free open source utility to pull your windoWhat is my windows key?ws key / windows serial number plus some other useful information from the depths of your windows installation.

    There is no need to install this program it is a standalone app meaning you can stick it on your USB stick for emergencies.

    How to set up remote desktop on windows XP, Vista and 7

    1. Click your Start button.
    2. In the search box type systempropertiesremote and press enter.
    3. A window will appear asking if you would like to allow access – Click Allow.
    4. You should now have the system properties window open on your screen with the Remote Tab selected. (If the remote tab is not selected, then please select it.)how to setup remote desktop
    5. At the bottom you have 3 options for setting up remote desktop access.
      1. Don’t allow remote connections – Turn off remote access
      2. Allow connection from any version of remote desktop.

      Select this is you are connecting from XP or from an Iphone or Ipad.
      Select this is you are only going to be connecting from windows vista or  higher, or your preferred remote desktop connection software supports NLA.

      1. Allow connections only from Remote Desktop with NLA.
    1. Click Apply at the bottom right.
    2. Your current profile will have automatically been added to the authorised user list.
    3. To add another account or remove an account click “Select Users…”, another window will appear. This window will display any authorised users.
      1. To Add an account.
      2. Click Add, another window will appear in the bottom box marked “Enter the object names to select”.
      3. Type in the account name you wish to add.
      4. Click Check Names.
      5. If the account name is valid it will change to Computername/accountname.
      6. If it is not valid an error window will appear called “Name not Found”.
      7. When happy click OK.
      8. To Remove an account, select the requested account and click remove.
    1. Your Pc is now ready to accept remote connections.
    2. When you connect remotely you will need to type in an authorised account name and its password.

      Hey, very good article regarding setting up remote desktop on XP, Vista and windows 7 computers. In addition to above, one can even deploy on premise remote support appliance such as RHUB or Bomgar appliances or can use hosted services such as logmeinrescue, gosupportnow, GoToMyPC etc. in order to remotely access computers.

    How to add UK Bank Holidays to my IPhone Calender

    Below are some basic instructions to allow your to easily add the future and past UK Bank Holidays or almost any other country to your Iphone, these instructions will also work on your Ipad.

    Apple provides a useful feature in IOS 4,5,6 and greater that will allow you to subscribe to any Public Internet Calendar. Apple makes things even easier for you by proving its own Public Internet Calendars.How to add UK Bank Holidays to my IPhone Calender

    Follow the steps below.

    • Unlock your Iphone or Ipad.
    • Tap the “Settings” Icon.
    • Tap “Mail, Contacts, Calendars”.
    • Scroll down and tap “Add Account”.
    • Tap “Other”.
    • Tap “Add Subscribed Calendar”.
    • Locate the server field input box and enter the URL of you desired calendar

    For UK  Bank Holidays enter – ical.mac.com/ical/UK32Holidays.ics

    • Tap “Next”.
    • If you want to you can change the name of the calendar on the next screen under “description”
    •  When you are happy Tap “save”.

    You should now have every UK Bank Holiday in the Iphone displayed in your or Ipad Calendar app. They will be viewable just like any other appointment.

    These instructions will also work on XP,Vista & Windows 7.

    1. Click your Start button.
    2. In the search box type cmd and press enter.
    3. You should now have a black box on your screen.How to set up a fixed IP address
    4. Type ipconfig and press enter.
    5. A lot of text will appear on the screen.
    6. If you connect wirelessly locate Wireless LAN adapter Wireless
      write down the following information

      1.  IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . :
      2. Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . :
      3.  Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :
      4.  IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . :
      5. Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . :
      6. Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :
    1. If you connect via a cable locate Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:
      write down the following information

      1.  IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . .
      2.  Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . :
      3.    Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :

     

    1. In the black box type exit and the window will close.
    2. Click the Start button again.
    3. In the search box type network and sharing center and press enter.
    4. A window will appear showing all your network connections.
    5. Locate the wireless or wired connection you are using.
    6. Click View Status.
    7. Another window will appear.
    8. Click the Properties at the bottom left.
    9. Another window will appear.
    10. Double click on Internet Protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4).
    11. Select the use the following IP Address so you can edit the boxes.
    12. Fill in the details you wrote down earlier.
    13. Click OK.
    14. Close down all the windows and restart your computer.

    That is it, your pc now has a fixed IP address.

    How to setup a Business Ebay Account

    These instructions are only for setting up an Ebay business account, if you are not planning on running a business you should setup a standard Ebay account.

    Goto ebay.co.uk or ebay.com or whichever derivative is suitable for your country.

    At the top left of the screen you will see “hi! Sign in or Register“– click register.How to setup a Business Ebay Account

    Ebay will now present you a form to fill in; you will need to enter the following information;

    • Business Name (Your registered name, this does not have to be the same as your username).
    • Business type (Manufacturer, Realtor, Charity, Wholesaler or Distributor, Broker/Jobber/Marker Trader/Dealer, Car Dealer, Other).
    • Salutation (Mr,Mrs,Miss,Ms).
    • First name.
    • Surname.
    • Street address.
    • Town/City.
    • County.
    • Post Code.
    • Country.
    • Primary telephone number.
    • Secondary telephone number (optional).
    • Email address.
    • Confirm Email address.

    Click Continue, Ebay will then offer you a second form.

    • Choose your companies Ebay user Id (this is what you will sign in with and buyers will see).
    • Choose your Password.
    • Confirm your Password.
    • Choose a secret question (e.g. your first school).
    • Your secret answer (the answer to the secret question you selected).

    Click Continue.

    Ebay will now want to confirm your identity by phone, Ebay will phone you and provide a 4 digit code, and you will need to enter this in the box provided.

     

    That’s it your account is now basically setup and ready to go.

     

    Further Items

    On the congratulations screen click the setup business seller information click and fill in your company details e.g. company registration number – all this is optional but recommended.

    To add your Company logo – go to the top left of the page, look for hi! “your user name” hover your mouse icon over your user name. A box will now appear offering various options; you will see a dummy square logo, click it.  Ebay will now offer you a selection of default logos you can choose from or you can upload your own.

    To upload your own logo click the first circle button then click browse and look for the image on your computer (it needs to be 150 *150) then click open.

    When you are happy scroll to the bottom and click save.

    How to setup a free AOL email account.

    Hints and Tips

    1)      Open your web browser of choice and type mail.aol.com into your address bar and press enter.

    2)      On the right hand side under the Blue “Sign In” button is a link called “Sign up for a free account” click this.

    3)      AOL will now offer you a screen to allow you to setup your email account. Enter the requested information.

    1. Your First Name.
    2. Middle Initial (optional).
    3. Your Last Name.
    4. Pick a User Name – this will be your actual email account e.g. yourname@aol.com. If your chosen username is not available AOL will offer you some similar alternatives, you are not obligated to choose one of these, you can start again if you wish.
    5. Enter your password of choice, see our recent post on creating a secure password.
    6. Renter your password to confirm.

    4)      Click Next.

    5)      AOL will now ask for some more information

    1. Data of Birth
      1. Month
      2. Day
      3. Year
    2. Your Gender
    3. Your Zip Code (Post code)
    4. Select a security Question. – This is used to help prove your identity in the future or if you forget your password.
    5. Enter a answer to the above question.
    6. Mobile Phone Number (optional). – This is used to help prove your identity in the future or if you forget your password.
    7. Alternate Email (optional). – This is used to help prove your identity in the future or if you forget your password.

    6)      Click Next.

    7)      AOL will now ask you to prove you are not an automated robot by entering the characters you can see in the box provided.

    8)      When you are happy click “Sign Up” – by clicking this button you are agreeing to their terms and conditions.

    9)      AOL will now display a Congratulations screen showing you your username and also your security question and its answer. AOL will also offer you the chance to download its browser tool bar. This is optional, to turn it down unselect the tick box.

    10)  That’s it AOL will now take you to its main webmail interface.

     

    To send your first email click on the email icon at the top left hand side under the AOL Logo.

    1. Type the recipients email in the To: box
    2. Type your messages subject in the Subject: box
    3. Type the main body of email in the large box underneath
    4. When you are happy click the send envelope icon located just above the To: box.

     

    That’s it you have successfully created a AOL free Email account and sent your first email.

     

    AOL and all images are the property and copy write of AOL.

    How to Restore an Asus Aspire 5635 to Factory Default Settings

    Hints and Tips

    Before going any further you should make sure you have backed up all your important data as restoring your Asus apsire to factory Default will wipe out the C drive.

    If you not not already have a backup and you can’t boot up your machine then you should ideally drop it in to us or your local computer shop to take a backup of your data first.

     

    1. Enter Bios Setup by pressing the F2 key when the post screen is displayed ( this is when the asus logo is displayed when you first start the laptop).
    2. Make sure “Disk to Disk Recovery” is enabled then choose save and exit.
    3. Reboot the Laptop.
    4. When the Post Screen is displayed press the “alt” + “F10” buttons at the same time – this will take you in to the recovery process.
    5. Follow the instructions on the screen.

    That should be it, if that does not work you recovery partition might have been corrupted. So you will need to try the recovery backup you took when you purchased the Laptop or order some replacement discs from asus.
