    Top 20 Passwords 2013

Earlier this year Abobe’s user account servers where “hacked” and the users passwords where stolen. Below are the top 20 most popular passwords that the account holders used.

Unfortunately there are not many surprises (apart from some Adobe specific variations) and the list is very similar to the top worst passwords we mentioned in 2012 and 2011 (see below).

Computer Room and Data Centre Alarm System

How are you currently protecting your Data Centre / Computer Room / Server Room from Power Failures, High Temperatures or even Intruders?

We would recommend the M30 Alarm Autodialler as a totally independent and failsafe method of monitoring your data centre / computer room or server room. The M30 will continue to function even if you have a total Power Failure, Network Failure & your Phone Lines are down. The M30 is designed so even during a total disaster it will still be able to communicate the problems instantly to the correct on call staff.

We now have them installed in 3 of our data centres, monitoring the incoming mains both single & three phases, and even more critically the output of our UPS’s. We monitor the power output and also have a interface link into the alarm outputs of the UPS, so we know the condition of the batteries. We also have Alarm Thermostats wired directly into the M30 to monitor the room’s temperature allowing us to check whether the air conditioning has failed.

The M30 connects to both our Land Phone network and also the GSM network, so if the Land Line fails or is cut the M30 will switch to its backup GSM Dialler option and crucially continue to monitor our equipment.

We have recently just interfaced the M30 into our intruder & access control system as well allowing us to instantly alert security when there has been a breech.

Check out the M30s Autodiallers Features and blog for more information.

How To Create A Secure Password

With all the hacking in the news at the moment, lots of people are asking, how do I create a secure password, to keep my email account/computer/bank account/Amazon account etc, secure and protected from unwanted intrusion.

Below is a quick guide to creating a secure password. How to Create a Secure Password

    The top most common passwords are;

    1. qwerty
    2. god
    3. 12345
    4. password
    5. letmein
    6. Peoples Names e.g. Thomas, James, Sarah.
    7. Pet Names. E.g. whiskers
    8. Sport Clubs E.g. Arsenal or the Red Socks
    9. TV show names or characters. E.g. rachaelgreen
    10. Movie names or characters. E.g. tomcruise
    11. Animals E.g. Monkey.

The above password examples, are the first that a hacker or one of their password sniffer programs will try to crack your account.

To create a password that will protect you and your information/money, you will need to mix it up a bit and think outside the box.

    1. Have a minimum length of 7 characters E.g *******
    2. Have a mixture of upper and lower case characters E.g. e*cA***
    3. Have a few numbers in the mix E.g. e9cA*1*
    4. Have a symbol or two E.g. e9cA&1!

You should also change your password regularly to stop people sneaking a look over your shoulder.

So e9cA&1! is a great password but not very memorable and obviously you don’t want to write it down, as that defeats the object of creating a secure password in the first place. But you can create a memorable password that is almost as secure by combining the secure methods with something that you will remember.

How about these they are both memorable and secure!

    • tom23CruisE&
    • arSenaL1£9

It is important to remember that no password is totally secure if someone has enough time and money they will be able to crack it, what you are trying do is make it so difficult and time consuming to break in they will move onto someone else’s.
